We could not be happier about this! The Anglican Foundation of Canada has awarded us a grant for our St Matthew's Community Health Hub (Fueled and Fit).
There is so much we want, and need, to do. We need a standup freezer and kitchen equipment to meet the demands of our ever-growing foodbank (the "fueled" part). We need to set up the accessible-to-all exercise classes (the "fit" part) that will take place in the hall. It's very exciting! Write to us if you want to know more! Do you want one of us to come talk to your church about being a worshipping community and what that can mean for your community, especially if you access and work with such wonderful resources as the Anglican Foundation? We would be delighted! As you know, we have a lot going on at St. Matthew's. Since turning the church building over to the diocese, we have been able to run from the hall:
It has been good for us and good for the community! Why did we turn the building over to the diocese? With astronomical insurance and utility bills, falling eavestroughs and interior plaster, resident church bees with their abundance of honey, ever-increasing mold, and few bodies sitting in the pews, our ministry moved across the street, where we are happily, as you can see in the list above, continuing a St. Matthew's presence. Our parish has not been disestablished, but rather moved across the street. At this stage, the church building needs to be deconsecrated. The service will happen on Sunday, October 26, at 1:30 pm. Bishop Townshend will preside. We would love for you to join us! If you have any questions about this, write here, or see one of us. We're happy to talk about it! See you, we hope, on the 26th. On Sunday, when services were cancelled for the snowstorm, St. Matthew's and Christ Church got together virtually for an 11 am Morning Prayer service. It was a great way to worship while staying off the roads -- such a great way, that we decided this will work anytime there is a weather cancellation! When snow, freezing rain, etc., close our church doors on a Sunday, Zooming at 11 will always be there. Just ask for the Zoom link if you don't already have it (it's the same one in every newsletter, if you get that) and you're there. We'd love to see you!
